Rodney Harmon Hawkins, 78, of Orange, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026.

Rod enjoyed a distinguished career as a metallurgist, where his expertise, leadership, and integrity earned him much respect in the field.

Rodney Harmon Hawkins, 78, of Orange, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026.

Born and raised in Milford, Connecticut, Rod built a life defined by devotion to his family, intellectual curiosity, and a deep appreciation for the pursuits he loved most. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather whose quiet strength, sharp mind, and steady presence will be deeply missed.

Rod is survived by his beloved wife, Linda (Hoddinott) Hawkins; his daughter, Lisa Hawkins; and his son, Eric Hawkins (Denise). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Katie Barretta, Emily Barretta, Chloe Hawkins, and Taylor Hawkins, each of whom brought him immense joy. He was predeceased by his mother, Betty Hawkins of Milford, and his brother, Rich Hawkins of Colorado.

Rod enjoyed a distinguished career as a metallurgist, where his expertise, leadership, and integrity earned him the respect of colleagues across the industry. He was also the owner and operator of Naugatuck Sunoco, a successful business in which he was proud to have dedicated many years of hard work and commitment to.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Rod embraced life’s pleasures with enthusiasm. He had a lifelong passion for sports cars and racing. He cherished time spent at his lake house—boating, fishing, and relaxing with family. He and Linda also enjoyed many winters in Naples, Florida, where they took long walks on the beach, savored the outdoor dining scene, and listened to live music together. Music was another great joy in his life; he could often be found playing one of his many guitars or writing original music, a pastime that brought him peace and fulfillment.

Rod’s legacy lives on through the memories he created and the many lives he touched.

There will be no calling hours. The family will honor Rod’s life in a private service.
