Body Of Swimmer, 21, Pulled From Reservoir In Oxford; ID Released

Emergency crews responded to a report of a swimmer who went under the water and didn't resurface, officials said.

OXFORD, CT — The person who was recovered from Seymour Reservoir #2 in Oxford on Thursday and later pronounced dead, has been identified as 21-year-old Kai Thomas Boapeah from Ghana, Africa, officials said in an update Friday.

He had been living with friends in Waterbury, according to officials.

DEEP Environmental Conservation (EnCon) Police along with Oxford Police, Oxford Fire, and the Region 5 Dive Team responded to a report Thursday afternoon of a swimmer who went underwater and did not resurface at the Seymour Reservoir #2 in Oxford, according to a news release.

Officials said a 21-year-old man was recovered by the dive team unconscious and unresponsive, and “following a period of CPR” was declared dead at the scene.

Oxford Ambulance also responded to the scene, Executive Director Madalene Taggart said CPR was initiated by EMS and the paramedic service Valley Emergency Medical called time of death at 3:08 p.m.

The incident remains under investigation by EnCon Police.

The State Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Officials said the Seymour Reservoir #2 is not a designated swimming area.
