Oxford Comes Together To Support Parks and Recreation Commissioner Battling Illness

The town of Oxford is helping the longtime volunteer who is waiting for an organ transplant.

OXFORD--The town is rallying to support one of their own.

Residents are organizing a fundraiser to support one local town volunteer and longtime Parks and Recreation commissioner who is in need of an organ transplant.

Parks and Recreation Commissioner Kenn Maher, 63, is battling late stage liver disease caused by a rare virus and is on the waiting list for an organ transplant, The Republican-American reports.

"Kenn Maher's Night of Hope" is scheduled for May 20 at 5:30 p.m. at Riverside Fire House. Proceeds will benefit the Maher family to assist with medical expenses, The Republican-American reports.

The Parks and Rec commissioner will need to travel to Georgetown University Hospital in Washington for the transplant, once a donor is found, the paper reports.
