Extra Staffing Helps Ridgefield Firefighters Contain House Fire Fast

Ridgefield firefighters quickly controlled a house fire in Ridgebury, aided by extra staffing during a shift change. No injuries reported.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — A house fire in the Ridgebury section of Ridgefield was quickly brought under control Monday morning, thanks in part to additional on-duty firefighters who were available at the time of the call, according to local fire officials.

The Ridgefield Fire Department responded to a 911 report of an exterior fire at a residence at 8:05 a.m. The Ridgebury fire engine, which is typically staffed with two firefighters, had a third on board due to the call coinciding with a shift change.

Simultaneously, Engine 1 had just cleared a nearby medical call and was able to respond. Both engines arrived on scene by 8:11 a.m., with five firefighters immediately beginning operations.

According to officials, the increased staffing allowed crews to quickly contain the fire, enter the home to confirm no one was inside, check for possible extension into the structure, and prevent further damage by keeping the fire limited to the exterior.

“Fires don’t wait for shift change,” the department noted in a statement. “More on-duty firefighters means faster, safer responses every time.”
