MacDonald, Canale, Maiolo: Recent Death Notices From Ridgefield

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Recent death notices from Ridgefield.

Rosemarie (Rigano) Canale, 91, died Aug. 20, 2025; she was a parish administrator at St. Mary’s Church, owned and operated Ridgefield Printing, directed and produced numerous theater productions including at Ridgefield Theater Barn and Ridgefield Summer Theater, founded Ridgefield Dinner Theatre, and enjoyed painting, cooking, and holiday decorating.

Guido A. Maiolo, 88, died Aug. 20, 2025; known as “Coach,” he was a longtime football coach from the Bronx to Ridgefield High School who emphasized preparation, teamwork, and faith, remained active with former players, co-owned businesses with his wife, embraced his Italian roots, enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, and dogs, and continued mentoring youth and coaching his grandchildren’s teams well into retirement.

Robert “Bob” John MacDonald, 93, died Aug 13, 2025; a former U.S. Army serviceman and longtime IBM sales and marketing executive who earned multiple Golden Circle and Hundred Percent Club awards, he was also a standout multi-sport athlete at St. John’s High School and Spring Hill College, an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ridgefield where he served as lector and Eucharistic Minister, and an avid golfer who played courses nationwide.

Donald Weber Hale, 94, died July 21, 2025; a U.S. Army sergeant from 1950–53 who earned commendation for halting a runaway half-track in Germany, he later founded and ran Don Hale Material Handling until retiring at 88, was active in the Buffalo Civil War Roundtable, frequently visited historical sites, started a history club after relocating to Ridgefield in 2021, and was known for his generosity, strong work ethic, and passion for American history.
