ReElect: Berkowicz, Carlson, & Smith: Protecting Ridgefield’s Environment and Smart Growth
Current IWB team balances development and environmental protection. We need their responsible oversight.
The Inland Wetlands Board saved the day for Ridgefield and the environment. The proposal to raise a one story, single family residence to be replaced with a three story 14+ unit structure, including some “affordable” units, in an already congested Abbot Avenue. Abbot Avenue was unanimously rejected by The Inland Wetlands Board because of nearby wetlands and concerns over flooding.
Affordable housing is a pressing need and a necessary goal, but not at the expense of the environment.
And to be literal, the expense of dealing with the long term consequences of ignoring the risk of enduring environmental damage, is far greater than any short term housing fix.
