Ridgefield Boards Announce New Volunteer Opportunities For Local Residents

Ridgefield is seeking volunteers for two key civic roles. Learn what positions are open and how to apply.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Two volunteer-opportunities are currently open in Ridgefield, as local civic boards seek residents willing to serve in important community roles.

The Ridgefield Housing Authority is recruiting a Treasurer to join its Board of Commissioners in a voluntary capacity. The treasurer’s primary responsibilities will include oversight of the Authority’s financial health, transparency and compliance—including working with its contracted management firm, external auditor and tax preparer, legal advisers where needed, and fellow commissioners. The day-to-day bookkeeping and transactional functions remain handled by the management company and are not part of the treasurer’s role.

Founded by the town in 1974 to address the need for affordable, safe housing for senior citizens, RHA develops and manages public housing facilities for seniors in Ridgefield. The agency administers some 150 units of low-income restricted housing and plays a key role in the town’s broader housing affordability landscape.

Meanwhile, the Ridgefield Conservation Commission is seeking an Alternate Member. Established in 1962 by town ordinance in response to enabling legislation adopted by the Connecticut General Assembly, the commission has a mission of fostering the development and conservation of Ridgefield’s natural resources. The board consists of nine voting members and two alternates appointed for three-year terms; all serve on a volunteer basis.

The duties of the Conservation Commission include managing and protecting the town’s open spaces, creating and maintaining trails, acting in an advisory capacity to the Planning & Zoning Commission and Inland Wetlands Board on environmental impacts of development, encouraging land acquisition or donation to bolster open-space inventory, and enforcing the town’s Open Space Use Ordinance.
