RIDGEFIELD, CT — Ridgefield residents once again shot down plans for a new Public Safety Building with a hefty price tag, in a property referendum that went before the public on Election Day, according to the vote totals tabulated on the Secretary of the State's website.

The $77.4 million facility would house both police and fire departments, and was touted as a "forever building" by town officials. The plan represented a scaled-back version of a design presented earlier this year that was reduced by about $8 million through design changes and site adjustments. But voters at the polls Tuesday still found the price tag too rich. The proposal was crushed beneath a 4,978 to 3,137 vote count.
