Ridgefield Gas Prices Tumble Even As Summer Road Trip Season Revs Up

RIDGEFIELD, CT — Basic market forces of supply and demand are kicking in to provide motorists a break at the pumps, just as summer road trip plans are shifting into gear.

Last week, gasoline output from U.S. refiners reached 10.019 million barrels a day — the highest level of 2024 so far, according to the Energy Information Administration. And gross inputs — a measure of how much crude oil and other components were refined into gasoline and other products — reached 17.37 million barrels a day, the highest levels since January 2020.

In Connecticut, a gallon of self-service regular is averaging $3.62, down 4 cents from last week and down 13 cents from one month ago. The national average is $3.53, down 6 cents from last week and down 13 cents from last month.

In Ridgefield, the best price for a gallon of regular fuel is $3.65 at the Gulf at 115 Danbury Road. At the Stateline Exxon you'll pay $3.83, and the price is $4.19 at the Mobil at 31 Danbury Road, and $4.49 at the Shell at 130 Danbury Road. The update was posted Wednesday morning by shopping app GasBuddy.

Alec Slatky, Managing Director of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Northeast, is attributing the break at the pumps to ample supplies of gasoline and strong domestic production.

"Many petroleum market participants are eyeing the EIA’s release later this week of demand figures from the Memorial Day holiday for guidance. If production continues at its current clip, even spectacular demand over the holiday weekend might do little to move pump prices higher."

• Bridgeport: $3.70
• Hartford: $3.58
• Lower Fairfield County: $3.68
• New Haven/Meriden: $3.62
• New London/Norwich: $3.59
• Windham: $3.64

On Monday, Mississippi has the lowest prices in the nation at $3.00, followed by Arkansas and Oklahoma at $3.07. California and Hawaii hold the highest prices in the nation this week, at $5.04 and $4.74, respectively. Connecticut holds the 13th place on the list of highest gas prices in the nation.
