Ridgefield Local Hero: 'Selfless And Extremely Resilient'

Nurse Carolyn Knupp is working to fight COVID-19 both on- and off-duty.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented times. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these everyday heroes.

Douglas Knupp in nominated his wife, Carolyn, a Danbury Hospital Emergency Department nurse, as a Patch Local Hero.

Carolyn is "selfless and extremely resilient," her husband said, and that's made clear by both her vocation and what she does off-duty.

"She works 12-hour shifts with COVID patients then comes home and sews masks for family, friends, colleagues, kids of colleagues, etc. She's made hundreds of masks with HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters in them."
