Ridgefield Man Sentenced In Child Pornography Case: Feds

Nicholas Skirkanich, who had been a high school math teacher since 2002, was arrested on Dec. 15, 2022, and placed on administrative leave.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — A Ridgefield resident and former Greenwich High School math teacher was sentenced to three years in prison this week for possessing child pornography, according to Vanessa Roberts Avery, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Nicholas Skirkanich, 45, of Ridgefield, was sentenced in Hartford on Thursday. Following the three-year sentence, Skirkanich will have 10 years of supervised release. He must also pay a fine and assessments totaling $25,000, and restitution of $4,000.

According to court documents and statements made in court, in October 2022, an online service provider submitted a cyber tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) indicating that a TikTok video containing child sex abuse imagery was sent from Skirkanich’s email account to another email account, Avery said in a news release.

A subsequent investigation found that Skirkanich had emailed the TikTok video to another email account he controlled, that he had also uploaded to TikTok another video of child sex imagery, and that he possessed numerous other child sex abuse images on his phone, Avery added.

Skirkanich, who had been a math teacher at GHS since 2002, was arrested on Dec. 15, 2022, and placed on administrative leave.

On Feb. 21, 2023, he pleaded guilty to accessing with intent to view and possessing child pornography. Greenwich Time reported that Skirkanich resigned in April 2023.

Skirkanich is released on a $150,000 bond and is required to report to prison on Oct. 19.
