Ridgefield 'Out Of The Red' As COVID Infections Drop
Connecticut's coronavirus metrics continue to improve. Here is how Ridgefield compares.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — The wearing of masks in schools becomes optional in Ridgefield on Monday, and the coronavirus is accommodating the school board's decision. There were no cases of COVID-19 reported in Ridgefield schools between Feb. 17 and Feb. 23, the Department of Public Health's most recent reporting period.
Ridgefield climbed up from "red" to "orange" zone, as it had 12 average daily cases per 100,000 residents and a positive test rate of 3.3 percent between Feb. 6 and Feb. 19, according to DPH. There were 18.3 average daily cases per 100,000 residents in the previous two-week reporting period, and the test rate is down from 4.8 percent. It's important to note that a few cases can have a large impact on a municipal case rate, especially for small towns.

Ridgefield recorded 64 new coronavirus cases between Jan. 30-Feb.12, according to DPH's preliminary data. Home self-test data is not included in the numbers supplied by the state.
The virus claimed 105 lives in Connecticut over the past week — 31 fewer than logged the week before — according to the state Department of Public Health.

In Ridgefield, there were no new deaths from COVID-19 in the latest weekly reporting period. The town's toll is 66 since the start of the pandemic.

As of Friday, 64.9 percent of Americans have been fully vaccinated, while 77.7 percent of Connecticut residents have had both jabs, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Both those numbers are up just 0.3 percent over the previous week. Just under half of Connecticut residents have received a booster shot against the coronavirus.
Ridgefield is ahead of the state curve, with 81.56 percent of its residents fully vaccinated, according to the latest DPH data.
