Special Weather Statement Issued For Northern Fairfield County

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for interior sections of Fairfield County.

...A LINE OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL AFFECT NORTH CENTRAL FAIRFIELD COUNTY

At 224 PM EDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Sherman to near Haverstraw. Movement was northeast at 30 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph are possible with these storms.

Locations impacted include...
Danbury, Ossining, Peekskill, Haverstraw, Mount Kisco, Mahopac, Lake Carmel, Sherman, Brewster, Newtown, Ridgefield, Bethel, Brookfield, New Fairfield and Redding.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
