RIDGEFIELD, CT — A vehicle crashed into the Ridgefield Post Office Wednesday morning, sending one person to the hospital and forcing the building to close for the day, officials said.

The Ridgefield Fire Department reported significant structural damage to the Catoonah Street building. Fire crews secured the site before turning it over to postal officials and federal inspectors.

“Our first priority was making sure the patient received care and that the scene was safe for everyone on site,” Assistant Chief Tony Cerulli said. “With the structural damage, we worked quickly to secure the building until postal officials and inspectors could take over.”
