Dad Seeking Justice After Son Lost His Leg In Rocky Hill Crash

"I don't know how he survived," Jeff Coddington said of his son after the crash. He's urging anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

ROCKY HILL, CT — The father of a 23-year-old whose leg was amputated following a car crash in Rocky Hill is seeking justice for his son, and he's urging anyone with dashcam footage to reach out to him.

In a Facebook post that has been shared over 2,600 times, Jeff Coddington said his son, Max, was hit by a speeding driver who was racing another driver down I-91 North in Rocky Hill on Jan. 19 at around 6:30 p.m.

Max was driving in the left lane when he attempted to move to the middle lane to avoid the speeders, Fox 61 reported.

But one of them hit him from behind, which sent his car airborne, the TV station said.

The car hit a guardrail off the highway's right shoulder, according to a police report of the crash, then it landed in a ditch, Fox 61 said.

Max was taken to the hospital where his left leg was amputated, and Jeff told Fox 61 that he doesn't know how his son survived.

Now, Jeff is hoping to find a motorist with dashcam footage who encountered the racing drivers. He said officials believe the car that hit Max is a black BMW or Infinity.

"If you were heading north and were past by them and you thought 'these guys are going to cause an accident' they did!" he wrote in his Facebook page. "Be a hero, Help me bring justice for Max and get these dangerous drivers off the road."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Jeff on Facebook via direct message, and/or to contact Trooper Nathan Filippone at (860) 534-1000 or nathan.filippone@ct.gov.

"I will happily travel to you to retrieve the video you have," Coddington wrote in his Facebook post. "PLEASE HELP US."
