In Memoriam: Lamberto Giovanni 'John' Camillo D'Alessandro

The Rocky Hill resident passed away March 2 at the age of 91.

Lamberto Giovanni “John” Camillo D’Alessandro, 91, of Rocky Hill, devoted husband for over 60 years to Dina (Petrella) D’Alessandro, died peacefully Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital with his family by his bedside.

Born June 23, 1924 in Campodipietra, province of Campobasso, Italy, he was the son of the late Anthony and Angela Maria (Davirro) D’Alessandro.

John retired in 1993 from St. Francis Hospital, where he was a plumber for over 20 years. He was a founding member of the former West Side Athletic Club and later enjoyed going to the Tennis Center of Rocky Hill as recently as this past Saturday. He was an avid reader and also enjoyed gardening and making homemade wine. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

In addition to his wife Dina, John is survived by his three children, Maria Olivia Chanin and husband Steven of Newburyport, MA, Angela D’Alessandro and Joe McGraw of Hebron and Tony D’Alessandro and fiancée Jennifer DiCaprio of Rocky Hill; two sisters, Savina DiTuccio of Wolcott and Vincenzina “Enza” Fontana of West Hartford; three adored grandchildren, David John Chanin, Rachael Beth Chanin and Jack John-Gabriel D’Alessandro; nieces and nephews, Martin DiTuccio and wife Kathy, Anthony Fontana, Joseph Fontana and wife Janis, Maria Shoaf and husband Michael and Cesidio Petrella and his son, Graziano Petrella, as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers-in-law, Eugene DiTuccio, Vittorio Fontana, Americo Petrella and Ercole Petrella; sisters-in-law, Marisa Petrella and Marzia Grilli.

A special thank you to John’s chiropractor and dear friend, Dr. Nicholas Damato for keeping his body limber and aligned all these years. A thank you also to “The Boys” from St. Francis Engineering, including his partner in crime, Bob, as well as Willy and Mario.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 7 at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Hwy., Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours are Sunday, March 6 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
