Temperatures in the Southbury area reached into the low-to-mid forties Monday morning, accompanied by a soaking rain that left some yards and roads flooded.
However, the "warm-up" won't last for long.
According to the National Weather Service forecast, temperatures are expected to plummet to a low of 8 degrees overnight into Tuesday, resulting in a flash-freeze situation that could make road conditions dangerous.
And with a Wind Chill Advisory in effect through Tuesday evening, it could feel more like 15-25 degrees below zero.
"A wind chill advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors...make sure you wear a hat and gloves," the NWS warns.
