Southbury To Host Open House On Comprehensive Zoning Regulations Update
Southbury will hold an open house to gather public input on a major update to the town's zoning regulations.
SOUTHBURY, CT — The Town of Southbury will host a public open house later this month as part of an ongoing effort to comprehensively update its zoning regulations, town officials said.
The open house is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Room 205 at Southbury Town Hall, located at 501 Main Street South. The session will be held on a walk-in basis and is open to all members of the public.
The town has partnered with SLR Consulting to review, update and reformat the zoning regulations, which were originally adopted in 1966 and last underwent a full update in 1973. Town officials said the current regulations have become fragmented over time and include language that is unclear and structurally outdated.

During the open house, attendees will receive an overview of the zoning update project, including its goals, background and current status. Interactive activities will be offered to gather public feedback and help identify which aspects of the regulations are most important to residents.
The zoning update is intended to align the regulations more closely with the town’s Plan of Conservation and Development, which was completed and adopted in 2023 by the Southbury Planning Commission. The plan outlines a long-term vision for growth and development in Southbury and includes a recommendation to modernize the zoning code.
