Be On the Lookout: Burglars Are Scoping Out Your Cars in Southington
There has been a rash of car burglaries in town.

Both the Southington and the Berlin Police departments are advising residents to lock their vehicles and be on the lookout for the thieves who are pilfering loose change, handbags and other valuables left inside parked vehicles.
During the overnight hours of Sunday, Jan. 24 through Monday, Jan. 25, there were several vehicle burglaries reported to the Southington Police Department. The burglaries were concentrated in the Whitlock Avenue and Todd Road neighborhoods in the southwest area of town.
Police said that a majority of the vehicles that were entered were unlocked in which mostly loose change was stolen. At a residence on Todd Road, a purse was recovered which police determined was stolen from a vehicle in Berlin.
And Berlin Deputy Police Chief John Klett said Tuesday, there were five thefts reported from the overnight Sunday in the southwest portion of town that abuts Southington.
In Berlin, during the overnight hours of Jan. 25, several unlocked cars were entered and money and personal items were stolen from vehicles parked on Southington Road, Vineyard Drive, Wigwam Road, Edgewood Road and High Road.
“We have repeatedly advised residents to lock their vehicles and not to leave anything of value in them or visible,” Klett said.
Klett advised residents to “call the admin line at 860-828-7080 for non-emergency or the 911 line. Please report anything suspicious particularly late at night, if it looks out of place it probably is. We would rather find out it’s nothing than have more residents victimized.”
For Southington residents, the thefts are under investigation and anyone with any information is asked to call the Southington Police at 860-621-0101.
Bottom line — don’t leave valuables in your car; lock it; set the alarm — and call police if you see or hear anything.
