Federal SNAP Crisis: Southington Seeks Donations
Southington Community Services is asking for monetary donations to stock its food bank, as federal SNAP benefits will cease this weekend.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — With SNAP food assistance expected to expire nationally on Saturday, Nov. 1, Southington Community Services announced Monday it is seeking donations to help its food bank.
And the department also announced a key component of the drive in the form of a foundation pledging to match donations to community services for the food bank.
The federal government shutdown has caused anxiety in social service circles nationwide, with millions expected to no longer have the money to feed themselves or their families.

But the Southington-based Joe & Kay Calvanese Foundation has pledged up to $10,000 in matching donations to Southington Community Services.
"The food pantry at community services is struggling with the purchase of food for the pantry," wrote Southington Community Services in an announcement on Monday.

As a result, the town is asking folks to send monetary donations to: Southington Community Services, 91 Norton St., Plantsville, 06479. Write "MATCH!" in the memo line.
