Longtime Polish Restaurant In New Britain Is Closing
The eatery had been a staple on the local dining scene for three decades.
NEW BRITAIN, CT — A well-known restaurant in New Britain known for fine Polish cuisine is closing after 30 years, its owners announced Tuesday.
The Staropolska Restaurant, located at 252 Broad St., New Britain, said it would not reopen after "30 wonderful years of culinary creativity."
The restaurant, according to a Facebook post Tuesday, said a 2023 fire in the basement impacted operations and the owners of the eatery couldn't come to terms with the building owner regarding an agreement for renovations there.

"As if surviving the pandemic wasn’t hard enough, on September 19, 2023, there was a fire in the basement," wrote Staropolska.
"While there was minimal damage to the restaurant, we were unable to come to an agreement and understanding with the property owner to have the building properly restored."

Ultimately, the owners opted against reopening.
"This decision did not come easy. After thinking long and hard and weighing out all our options - after 30 wonderful years - it is time to retire," wrote the restaurant.
The owners thanked the customers and staff over the three decades and wished everyone well.
"We would like to say goodbye and thank everyone who has supported us over the years," wrote the eatery.
"To all our friends and customers who saw us evolve from a tiny place with only five tables to our ‘big move’ in 2001, thank you for sticking with us."
On the Facebook post, nearly 150 comments of support were left.
One person wrote on the social media post, "Congratulations on your retirement! You certainly deserve it! My family and I and my friends have many wonderful memories celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, etc at your wonderful Polish Restaurant. Thank you! You will be missed. All the Best to you in the years to come!"
