Major 5K Road Race Slated In Southington Saturday
Southington police have issued traffic alerts regarding the event, which takes place Saturday, March 8, with some of the race in Cheshire.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local police are warning motorists about some shenanigans expected this Saturday on some Southington roadways, with some of the race taking place in Cheshire.
But don't worry, it will only be temporary and the shenanigans are, merely, the Hartford Marathon Foundation's annual "O'Shenanigans 5K" road race, which celebrates the St. Patrick's Day season and the sport of running.
The 5K will take plae Saturday morning, March 8, with a kids fun run slated for 9:30 a.m. and the actualy 5K taking place at 10 a.m.

At the center of race day activities is Kinsmen Brewing, which is located at 409 Canal St., Plantsville.
There, pre- and post-race activities will take place and the event will start nearby on Canal Street.

Parking is available at multiple locations nearby, with the lots specifically marked for race parking.
A post-race party and awards ceremony will follow completion of the event, which draws about 1,000 runners annually.
During the event, however, the Southington Police Department said motorists should be aware of the following situations:
• Canal Street, from Burritt Street to the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, will be closed from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m.
• Delays are expected on sections of Canal Street, Peck Lane and Schoolhouse Road from 9:55 to 10:30 a.m.
• Delays are expected on the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail (from Schoolhouse Road to Burritt Street) and on Burritt Street (from Canal Street to Clark Street) from 10 to 11 a.m.
