New Sports-Themed Tavern To Open In Southington

The tavern is expected to open early next month, according to a report.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Salty Dog Tavern, a sports-themed tavern, is expected to open Sept. 7 in the former Tipping Chair location at 1783 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike in Southington, according to the Hartford Business Journal.

Hartford Business reports the tavern is the latest venture for Mike Miller, who operates two Hop Haus locations and is in the process of adding a third. Hop Haus is a popular gastropub/craft eatery with locations in Southington and Plainville.

“Hop Häus is an upbeat casual craft eatery featuring locally sourced eats and top-rated craft beer and cocktails from CT’s best brewers and distillers,” reads a post on the Hop Haus website. “Southington, Plainville and our new Berlin location (coming soon) have options for indoor dining as well as a beautiful outdoor patio. We also offer easy online ordering and safe curbside pickup.

“Our Southington location opened in the winter of 2014, in the little town of Plantsville, as Southington's first Gastropub. Since then, Hop Haus has expanded into a multi-location craft eatery focusing on locally sourced food, craft beer and hand-crafted cocktails. Over the years, Hop Haus has become a staple in their towns supporting local charities & public events. We continue to focus on buying products from local farms and purveyors across CT and New England.”
