1 Dead In Southington House Fire Monday Morning: SFD

The local police and fire departments are investigating the cause of the blaze.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The occupant of a home on Chaffee Lane in Southington was killed in an early morning house fire Monday.

According to the Southington Fire Department, firefighters found the home's lone occupant at 2 Chaffee Lane deceased inside the home.

The SFD said the victim's name is not being released until notification of next of kin is made.

The fire department said no other civilians or firefighters were injured in the blaze.

According to the SFD, the department was dispatched to that address at about 2:28 a.m. Monday for a report of a structure fire.

When multiple SFD units arrived, firefighters saw a column of smoke showing at the home, with fire visible from a corner of the house.

"Crews initiated an exterior attack to knock down fire before making an aggressive interior attack and conducting searches for occupants," wrote the SFD in a release. "Fire was found in multiple rooms and extinguished."

It was during this operation that firefighters found the victim's body inside.

The Southington FD was assisted at the site by the Bristol and Meriden fire departments, with town coverage provided by the Cheshire and New Britain fire departments.

The blaze is being investigated by the Southington Fire Marshal's Office, the Southington Police Department, and the CT State Police Fire and Explosive Investigation Unit.
