Southington 'Battle Of The Badges' To Feature Pizza War
The Southington police and fire departments are going against each other in an epic pizza-eating contest this Saturday, May 24.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — It's not unusual for municipal police and fire departments to engage in various friendly competitions to boost morale and earn bragging rights amongst those who serve.
From basketball to hockey to softball, fire department versus police department competitions are not new.
But on Saturday, May 24, the Southington Police Department and the Southington Fire Department will be battling out in a rather unusual competition, one requiring the stretching of the stomach as much as the muscles.

Each department will field a team of four men with big appetites that day at a local pizza place for a "Pizza Eating Contest."
It will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at Nonna's Pizza, 131 Center St., Southington.

The rules are simple: whichever team can destroy a 30-inch pizza the fastest wins a pizza party for their respective department and, of course, bragging rights against these public service rivals.
The SPD last week even posted a hype slide show featuring the roster of participants, along with their names, ages, height and weight (as if they're prepping for a boxing match.)
Police called the event a "Battle of the Badges."
Which side will win?
