Southington Food Nonprofit Braces For 'Uncertainty Unlike Anything We've Experienced Before'
Southington-based 'Bread for Life' reassured the town that it is ready to help an influx of clients due to the SNAP crisis.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — Calling this a "time of uncertainty unlike anything we've experienced before," a Southington nonprofit said this week it is there to help with food insecurity.
With the federal government about to allow millions in the country to go hungry on Saturday as SNAP benefits end, locally based Bread for Life is seeking help from the community and reassuring those they assist.
"In a time of uncertainty unlike any we’ve experienced before, the needs of many in our community hang in the balance. Bread for Life wants to assure you that we continue to be here to help in any way we can," wrote Bread for Life Director Missy Cipriano to the community on Thursday.

According to Cipriano, the organization has seen a "steady increase" in clients needing assistance, even before the federal government shutdown, citing grocery price inflation.
Whether SNAP benefits cease or not, Cipriano vowed Bread for Life will be there for Southington.
"This week, during and after several meetings, two words stayed with me: 'Southington Strong,'" she wrote. "I’m sure many of you remember that phrase from nearly five years ago, when our community faced tremendous challenges. I truly believe it applies again today, both to our town and to our organization."
Cipriano said she wants the community to be aware of Bread for Life's mission, whether they need help or want to help.
Bread for Life's decree Thursday comes as the Southington community has spent the week mobilizing to help residents, including children and the elderly, who are about to lose their ability to get food due to the federal government.
Among those efforts are a local tattoo parlor hosting a food drive and the Town of Southington seeking help as well.
