The Knights of Columbus is hosting its annual free-throw shooting contest for kids aged 9-14 later this month.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — NBA Hall-of-Famer Shaquille O'Neal is too old to compete in a free throw competition in Southington next month.
But, then again, his free-throw shooting history probably would still have him as the underdog even if competing against Southington's 9- to 14-year-olds.
Nevertheless, the annual Southington Knights of Columbus Basketball Free Throw Challenge will take place Saturday, Jan. 14, at Southington Catholic School, 133 Bristol St.

The event aims to single out who is the best youngster from the charity stripe in the area and it is free to participate.
Registration for the challenge begins at 10:30 a.m. and the competition starts at 11 a.m.

All participants need to do is practice, register and start shooting.
If Mother Nature starts waving her meteorological arms behind the basket, the inclement weather date is Saturday, Jan. 21.
