Southington Girls Basketball Coach Gets 500th Career Win: Reports

Howie Hewitt, who coached for 33 years at Meriden's Maloney High School, notched his 500th win while coaching the Southington girls Monday.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Howie Hewitt, who has led the Southington girls basketball team for three seasons after decades of coaching boys basketball in Meriden, won his 500th game Monday night, multiple news outlets reported.

Hewitt achieved the milestone when the Southington Blue Knights beat Northwest Catholic High School in West Hartford, 56-37, Hearst Connecticut Media reported.

He earned his first 457 wins as Maloney High School's boys basketball coach, Hearst said. He resigned from that job in May 2019 so he could coach in Southington, according to the news outlet.
