Southington Motel Guest Faces Gun Charges

The suspect called the motel and said he forgot something in his room.

A guest at Motel 6 realized he left something behind and when he went back to retrieve it, he was arrested by Southington Police.

According to Southington Police, it was about 12:22 p.m. on Feb. 6 when the staff at the motel at 625 Queen St., reported that they received a call from a man who said “he forgot an item in his room and he was on his way back to retrieve the item.”

The staff checked the room and found a loaded .22-caliber handgun underneath a bed pillow, according to police.

The man returned to the motel and retrieved to the handgun and was stopped in the parking lot by the responding officers.

The suspect, identified as Nigel Watts, 26, of Waterbury, was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Watts was charged with Criminal Possession of a Pistol/Revolver, Illegal Carry Pistol without a Permit, and second-degree Breach Of Peace. Watts was released on a $10,000 non-surety bond and given an appearance date of Feb. 16 in Bristol.

Watts was then turned over to Waterbury Police that held an active arrest warrant.
