Southington Nonprofits Get Thousands In Grant Money

The Main Street Community Foundation has chosen five organizations to receive money from a Southington-based trust fund, it announced.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A Southington-based trust fund has awarded more than $370,000 to a group of nonprofits that aim to improve the health and well-being of the town's residents.

The Bradley Henry Barnes and Leila Upson Barnes Memorial Trust is run by the Main Street Community Foundation, which awards the funding to nonprofits in town. In total, $374,445 was given to five organizations.

Arc of Southington: $80,000

The Arc of Southington supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It will use the money to build an outdoor pavilion that will provide outdoor programming and gathering space for its clients and families.

Prudence Crandall Center: $50,000

The Prudence Crandall Center has been providing care and support to individuals affected by domestic violence for as long as the Trust has existed, and it will use the money to continue its prevention and intervention work in Southington.

Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA: $100,000

The Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA will use its money to help sustain operations and provide programs and opportunities that enhance the quality of living in its community.

LEAF (Lewis Educational Agricultural Farm): $60,000

The LEAF will use its money to continue school and community programs that focus on agricultural education and ensuring a healthy and sustainable food supply in Southington.

United Way of Southington: $84,445

United Way of Southington will use its money to continue its senior transportation program that provides free rides to Southington seniors in collaboration with Senior Transportation Services of New Britain.

The Bradley Henry Barnes and Leila Upson Barnes Memorial Trust was founded by Bradley Barnes in 1973. In the 18 years since it's been under the care of the Main Street Community Foundation, the foundation has awarded nearly $11.9 million to Southington-based organizations.
