Southington Tattoo Parlor To Host Food Drive In Response To SNAP Crisis

The North Main Street business is collecting non-perishable food for Southington Community Services from Oct. 31 to Nov. 24.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A local tattoo/piercing parlor is looking to make more than just a mark on people's bodies; it wants to make a mark on its community.

On Friday, Oct. 31, Propaganda Ink Tattoo & Piercing Parlor on 550 N. Main St., will kick off a special food drive for the local needy this Thanksgiving season.

With the federal government shutdown threatening to force 42 million Americans to go hungry with the ceasing of federal SNAP benefits this Saturday, Propaganda Ink wants to help.

As a result, from Oct. 31 to Nov. 24, every five non-perishable food items donated will result in a raffle ticket for a free, hour-long tattoo — valued at $180.

The winner will be announced during a live drawing on Tuesday, Nov. 25.

The parlor's owners said this food drive is in response to the federal government shutdown and the potential cessation of the federal SNAP food assistance program.

"With the government shut down and more than 400,000 CT residents now facing food insecurity, we are collecting non-perishable donations for Southington Community Services to help make sure nobody goes hungry this holiday season," wrote Propaganda Ink.

Donations can be dropped off Monday-Friday at Propaganda Ink Tattoo & Piercing Parlor, which is located at 550 N. Main St., Southington.
