SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — A group of five current and former South Windsor leaders have banded together to form the United Community Party, a political party they hope will "put a grinding halt" to what they described as divisive local politics.

The founders are three current and former town councilors (former Republicans Marek Kozikowski, Phil Koboski and Jan Snyder) and two board of education members (former Republican Art Adduci and former Democrat Jessica Waterhouse).

They filed the party's by-laws with the town of South Windsor on Tuesday.

In creating the party, the group wanted to rise above the division in their town — which they said was evident during the 2021 municipal election — by re-emphasizing community and collaboration, its founders said in a news release.

"The formation of United Community is not about shunning or attacking Republicans and Democrats, but instead embracing what makes South Windsor unique and preventing further elections that aim to divide us," the news release reads.

The party's "guiding principles," according to its website, are to unite through community service, rise above divisive politics, support 21st century education and achieve balanced growth.

Overall, the founders said in their news release, they want to help their town — which they described as "more than a suburb of Hartford that acts as a convenient hub for supply chains."

"All are welcome to join a party that sees neither left or right, but instead forward progress," the news release reads. "We will listen, we will learn, and we will work for the best interest of South Windsor."
