Big-Name Retailer Starts Layoffs At South Windsor Distribution Center
The national retailer has begun permanently eliminating jobs, according to a WARN notice.
SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Layoffs have begun at the Macy’s distribution center in South Windsor, where the company is shutting down its entire Backstage operation and permanently eliminating 106 jobs.
The layoffs stem from a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification initially disclosed on October 28th, 2025, and later circulated to state and local officials. The notice was sent to the Connecticut Department of Labor and South Windsor Mayor Audrey Delnicki. The facility is located at 301 Governors Highway.
According to the notice, job eliminations began on December 28th, 2025, and will continue through January 10, 2026. All layoffs are permanent.

“At this point, the entire Backstage operation at the Macy’s South Windsor location will be closing,” the notice states.
The affected positions include warehouse associates, power equipment operators, managers, trainers, and other support roles. No employees at the site are represented by a union, according to the notice.

Macy's said impacted employees will receive information about severance, benefits, and potential transfers to open positions at other nearby company locations. The notice also states that workers do not have bumping rights, and any future rehire would be subject to company policies in effect at that time.
