They added, however, that there is "still quite a bit of uncertainty" for this storm, and where areas receive mainly snow or mainly rain — or a mix in between — will depend on how the storm eventually tracks.

The storm is expected to drop "heavy, wet snow" from Connecticut to southern New Hampshire. The storm will also bring strong winds which could cause downed trees and limbs and possibly power outages.

In South Windsor, the snow is expected to start before 1 p.m., before changing to a mix of rain and snow through Sunday evening. Temperatures are expected to fluctuate around freezing.

Residents Urged to Clear Sidewalks in Advance of Snow

In advance of another predicted snowstorm, the South Windsor Police Department is requesting that residents comply with the regulations concerning clearing sidewalks "to ensure the safety of pedestrians, including our town’s children who use the sidewalks to travel to and from bus stops (school resumes on Monday, Feb. 25)."

A press release states the following:

Town regulations require that sidewalks are made passable following a snowstorm. Violations of this regulation can result in an infraction ticket being issued, however it is our ultimate goal that pathways are opened for safe travel by pedestrians. The spirit of the regulation is that town sidewalks are cleared sufficiently to allow pedestrian traffic, generally school children, moving to and from bus stops.

The sidewalk does not have to be cleared in its entirety, just made safe. A reasonable sized path that is salt/sanded may suffice.

Snow/Ice Storms: No vehicle shall be parked on the public streets of the town during a snow or ice storm that has been in progress one hour and continuing for a period of 24 hours after the storm has ended. Residents’ cooperation in keeping the roads free of parked vehicles allows the Public Works crews to clear and sand roadways in a timely and efficient manner, making travel safer for everyone.

Overnight Parking: Residents are reminded that no vehicles shall be parked on the public streets of the town overnight for the period from November 15 to April 15. Any vehicle parked continuously between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. during this period shall be deemed to have been parked overnight, and the owner may be subject to a fine.
