The 2012 South Windsor High boys soccer team enjoyed a successful season that included a 13-2-1 record and a No. 6 seeding in the state Class LL tournament.
The team graduates 12 players from that squad, an unprecedented six of whom are going to play in college.
Christian Lopes (Sacred Heart University), Zach Heckt (Saint Anslem College), Andrew Smith (Stonehill College), Eric Hintz (University of Scranton), Evan Cheman (Springfield College) and Jeff Allen (Emmanuel College) are all moving on to the next level.
Lopes, a forward, and Hintz, a goalkeeper, were All-State players, while Hintz was also named All-New England. Lopes is the only one to commit to a Division I school, while Hintz’s University of Scranton team is one of the top 10 Division III programs in the country.
Heckt, Cheman and Smith were named All-CCC North along with Lopes and Hintz.
Head coach David St. Jean said that he’s proud of all of the players and their accomplishments.
St. Jean said the six, along with the other seniors on the 2012 team, helped grow the South Windsor High soccer program and committed themselves to the team.
While no one encourages the players to only play soccer, St. Jean said that five of the six players decided to focus solely on soccer, dropping basketball after their freshman year.
Among other things, St. Jean said that every school is getting a hard-working, dedicated and talented student athlete to study as well as play for its soccer team.
