South Windsor Girls Basketball Team Raises Money for Sandy Hook Scholarship Fund

SWISH for Sandy Hook raises $3,000 for scholarship fund.

From Sue Jackson

The South Windsor girls basketball team held two events to raise money to support the Sandy Hook Scholarship Fund.

Each year the girls basketball team sponsors a fundraising event to help a local organization or cause. This year the team decided it wanted to support the families affected by the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The team held the two events in an effort to not only raise funds, but to bring awareness to the horrific events that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School and to show support for the Newtown community.

The scholarship fund was established by the UCONN Foundation to offer assistance to the children of Sandy Hook Elementary School who choose to attend the University of Connecticut.

The girls basketball team hosted the alumni of South Windsor High School. The girls played a “friendly” game against the alumni with all proceeds going to the fund. SWISH for Sandy Hook took in donations and pledges through the generosity of the South Windsor community.

The Lady Bobcats also hosted Weaver High School in a CCC conference matchup. All proceeds from that evening’s game also added to the donation.

The results of both events allowed the Lady Bobcats to donate over $3,000 to the scholarship fund.

The Lady Bobcats would like to thank the athletic department of SW High School, the custodial staff, the parents and friends of the SWGBB program, the Weaver High School Girls Basketball team and the alumni of SWHS.
