[Updated] South Windsor Police Charge East Hartford Man With Home Invasion, Sexual Assault
Police have arrested and charged Michael Roberts in connection with an Oct. 2012 assault reportedly to have happened in a home on Chapel Road.

Update, Dec. 6:
Prior to South Windsor Police arresting and charging Michael Roberts, 37, of East Hartford with several criminal violations for allegedly breaking into an acquaintance’s home and raping her, the unidentified woman had secured a protective order against her attacker, according to court records.
According to an arrest affidavit filed in Manchester Superior Court, Roberts had been arrested and charged in September with breach of peace and fourth-degree criminal mischief for allegedly grabbing the woman and shoving her during an argument before damaging some of her personal belongings.

After his September arrest, the woman requested and the court granted a protective order against Roberts, requiring that he have no contact with the woman, according to court records.
Roberts violated that order by contacting the woman several times the night of Oct. 10 and early morning Oct. 11 before breaking into her home through a basement window and sexually assaulting her while her two children slept upstairs, according to police and court records.

Roberts was initially charged with violating a protective order and held on a $100,000 bond at the Hartford Correctional Center. While in custody of the Department of Correction, Roberts submitted to various DNA tests and through evidence collected at the Chapel Road location police were able to connect Roberts with the crimes leading to the additional charges of home invasion and first-degree sexual assault, among others, according to court records.
Roberts is currently being held by the Department of Correction on a $700,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 19.
