At Tuesday’s Town Council meeting, Director of Human Services Dennis Sheridan said that his department had two needs: a car for caseworkers to make visits in the field and a printer/copier for the back office.

On Wednesday, Chief of Police Matthew Reed, who is also the acting town manager while Matthew Galligan is away for the week on vacation, provided Human Services with a Chevrolet Malibu that the police department used sparingly.

Reed said that the Malibu was on loan to Human Services until it can find a permanent solution. Human Services’ vehicle had to be taken out of service because there was a crack in the frame, Sheridan said a the Town Council meeting Tuesday.

Sheridan on Wednesday expressed his gratitude to Reed and the police department and said that the gesture was an example of inter-department cooperation.

“Now our caseworkers can get back to the business of doing home visits,” Sheridan said.

Reed said that he was working on obtaining a printer/copier for Human Services’ back office. The back-office equipment is necessary because of the amount of paperwork that is generated by the department as well as the sensitive content in the paperwork, Sheridan said.

Sheridan added that he was grateful for the hard work of the South Windsor IT department, which promptly responds to requests to fix office equipment.
