South Windsor Police Department to Offer Accident Reports Online

The reports can be obtained at www.crashdocs.org.

The following is a press release from the South Windsor police department:

The South Windsor Police Department recently set up an account to distribute accident reports electronically via www.crashdocs.org, a division of the Carfax corporation.

The police department's records staff will upload its completed accident reports to the Crashdocs website.

The web-based company then maintains them in an on-line database.

Citizens and insurance companies can then retrieve and pay for the report online, downloading it immediately. There is no cost to the town to participate in this service. Crashdocs will send the department a check once a month for our share of collected fees. This agreement also gives officers the ability to query Carfax records for vehicle information which may be helpful during investigations of abandoned or stolen cars.

The Crashdocs.org information is listed on the back page of the Motor Vehicle Accident Information form that the police department completes for the involved persons at accident scenes, and a link is on the police department's homepage.

Customers can still retrieve reports in person or via mail; this service is simply to better serve citizens who may not be from this region. It is also helpful to insurance companies who request a significant volume of reports each year.
