South Windsor Town Council to Discuss Blizzard Response, Human Services Budget

The South Windsor Town Council will hear tonight a recap of the recent storm that dumped between 2 and 3 feet of snow on the area.

Director of Public Works Mike Gantick will discuss the town’s response to the storm, including how snow was cleared, and, possibly, how the town can better approach blizzards in the future, according to Town Manager Matthew Galligan’s report to the council.

In addition, Dennis Sheridan will discuss the Human Services budget during the work session at 7 p.m.

The council is also expected to appoint Matthew Riley as a member of the Board of Education. Riley will fill the vacancy left by Richard Mabey, who announced his resignation from the school board last month to spend more time with his family.

Finally, the council is expected to consider naming the town’s Water Pollution Control Facility after Joseph Carino, a longtime volunteer on numerous commissions and boards in South Windsor.

Carino, who is over 90 years old, decided to step down recently from the Economic Development Commission and the Water Pollution Control Authority. His retirement marked the end of 50 years of service to the town.

The council’s work session will begin at 7 p.m. at Town Hall, while the regular meeting starts at 8 p.m.
