South Windsor Valedictorian, Salutatorian Look Forward to Graduation
Katie Cavanaugh is South Windsor High's valedictorian, while Tim Savidge is the salutatorian

Outside of their status on class rank, there is one marked difference between Katie Cavanaugh, South Windsor High’s valedictorian for the Class of 2013, and salutatorian Tim Savidge.
Cavanaugh, who took part in mock trial and model government, was a member of student government for four years and was a student representative on the board of education, is not necessarily looking forward to the valedictorian speech she has to give at graduation.
“We’ll see,” she said with a laugh after the South Windsor High Scholarships and Awards Ceremony at Maneeley’s on Monday evening. “I’m excited but nervous.”

Savidge, an All-State swimmer, has no reservations about his salutatorian speech.
“I’m excited,” Savidge said. “I’ve been looking forward to it all year. I just like talking in front of people.

What the two agree on, however, is that the honors they received on Monday evening were the culmination of four years of hard work.
Cavanaugh said that she was honored to be valedictorian, particularly because there are so many talented students at South Windsor High.
“To share it with everyone is exciting,” said Cavanaugh, who will attend the University of Connecticut in the fall to study political science and economics.
Savidge agreed.
“It means all the work I put in has paid off in a way,” he said. “But I have a great responsibility on me as I head on to college.”
Savidge will join his older brother at Tufts University in the fall, where, like his brother, he will be a member of the swimming and diving team.Get more local news delivered straight to your inbox. Sign up for free Patch newsletters and alerts.
