South Windsor Youth and Family Services to Host Dinner to Benefit Sandy Hook Memorial Fund
Tickets are on sale for event that will be held on March 1

The South Windsor Youth and Family Services Department is hosting a dinner to benefit the Sandy Hook School Memorial Scholarship Fund on March 1.
“We specifically chose the Sandy Hook Memorial School Fund through UConn because we find great benefit for the kids to get their education,” said Joann Moriary, Youth and Family Services coordinator. “Rather than send Teddy Bears and flowers and money, the staff and I decided to do something … more long-lasting.”
Tickets - $10 for adults and $5 for children - are still available, Moriarty said.
The dinner will include pizza, salad, beverages and dessert, all of which will be donated by local businesses such as Alexia’s, The Red Onion, Luna’s Pizza, Boston’s Pizza, Geissler’s, Sam’s, Teddy’s Pizza and the Olive Garden.
There also will be live entertainment, Moriarty said.
It’s the first time that Youth and Family Services has done something like this, Moriarty said.
According to a press release, all proceeds from the event will be directed to The University of Connecticut Foundation, Inc. to benefit the Sandy Hook School Memorial Scholarship Fund.
“The fund will help support the college costs for any sibling of those killed in the assault, the dependants of the adults who lost their lives, as well as students currently enrolled at the elementary school, who are accepted to attend the university,” the press release says.
Tickets for the event can be purchased through Feb. 26 at the South Windsor Human Services Office Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at 150 Nevers Road.
