WILLINGTON, CT — This week's stop at a Hidden Gem takes us down a hill, across the Willimantic River and around a bend to a family owned restaurant that serves breakfast all day and even offers some specialty cocktails.

Welcome to Flat Pennies Kitchen at 12 Tolland Turnpike in Willington. The roots of the location go back to an old train depot.

The breakfast reputation precedes the current owner — the Pineo Family, which operated The Red Cabin in South Windsor for nearly two decades.

There are three different types of hash and an item called "Mess Madness," which features bacon, sausage, cheddar cheese, onions and home fries topped with two over-easy eggs and finished with hollandaise sauce (it also comes with cornbread).

The Willington Waffle and the biscuits and gravy are also featured items

Oh ... there's also Mr. Presley — peanut butter stuffed French toast, topped with bananas and bacon and finished with caramel sauce.
