Other responding officers located a man, later identified as Downey, walking southbound on Morgan Street and holding a black handgun, police said.

"Officers confronted Downey and issued multiple commands for him to drop the firearm. Downey initially failed to comply and continued walking toward officers," police said. "After further commands were given, Downey placed the firearm on the ground and was ordered to step away from it. Once he was safely separated from the weapon, officers approached and detained him without further incident."

"Multiple evidence locations" were identified throughout the area, and several shell casings and a firearm were recovered, according to police.

Police did not give details on what led to the shooting incident. An investigation remains ongoing, and police said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
