The initial fire spread to adjacent homes, according to officials.
STRATFORD, CT — Several homes were extensively damaged after a 2-alarm fire overnight in Stratford, according to officials.
The Stratford Communication Center received multiple 911 calls around 3 a.m. on Jan. 7 reporting smoke and fire from 27-35 Shoreline Drive, according to a news release from Fire Chief Jermaine B. Atkinson.
First-arriving crews found the fire “increasing in intensity and spreading from the initial residence reported to the adjacent homes,” according to the news release.

“These fire conditions prompted an upgraded response to a second alarm assignment including the remaining on duty companies for a working fire,” officials wrote in the news release. “Additional staff officers were called to assist with operations on scene. Fire crews worked quickly to establish a primary and secondary water supply and reduce fire spread to the adjacent structures. Weather conditions slightly impacted operations based on limited visibility on the water side of the structures.
“All occupants were able to exit the affected residence. Two occupants were impacted and the Red Cross was called for assistance. Stratford EMS units were called to the scene for support.”

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal Office in coordination with the Stratford Fire Marshal's Office.
“Due to the extensive fire damage and structural compromise, heavy equipment was requested to come to the scene to assist with overhaul of the scene,” the news release states. “The Bridgeport and Milford Fire Departments provided station coverage during the incident duration.
“The Stratford Fire department would like to remind our residents to have working smoke detectors, regularly practice an escape plan for residential homes, and call 911 immediately upon observation of smoke or fire.”
