Noto, Wahl, Wissel: Recent Death Notices From Suffield

Condolences are extended to the families and friends of those who have recently died.

SUFFIELD, CT — Here are some recent death notices from Suffield.

Josephine (Rinaldi) Noto, 100, left this world on March 13, 2025. She was a child of the Great Depression, which left quite an impression. She strived throughout her life to rise above what life handed her and felt she had been amply rewarded. She and her husband Joe (Red) traveled extensively throughout the world, though Joe had to be convinced to go along on these jaunts. During World War II, she left her office job at Pratt & Whitney to help the war effort. She then married and worked for Brainard Nursery as the secretary. She later worked for Combustion Engineering, General Electric, Marten Marieta (now Lockheed Martin) working for 36 years at one location. Josephine spent many happy years at Suffield By the River.

Holly Wahl, 68, of East Granby, formerly of Windsor and West Suffield, passed peacefully on March 12, 2025, at home. worked most of her career at Cigna Insurance as an architect, senior business systems analyst, developer and engineer. She was a certified project manager and CISSP. She was a former member of the CT Dressage Association and the Granby Horse Council.

Dr. Harold Wissel, 86, passed away on Feb. 10, 2025. He was married to his true love Trudy Wissel for 61 years and the family they raised together grew up with his values and loved him dearly. Hal compiled more than 300 wins as a collegiate basketball head coach. He turned losing programs at Trenton State and Lafayette into conference champions. In 1972, Hal coached Fordham into the NIT tournament, and in one of the school’s greatest victories, the Rams won the prestigious Holiday Festival Championship in 1974 over fifth-ranked Southern California at Madison Square Garden. In 1977, Hal was named head men’s basketball coach at Florida Southern College, making four straight trips to the NCAA Division II tournament and three straight trips to the Division II Final Four ('80, '81, and '82), winning the NCAA Division II national championship in 1981. In 1981, he was awarded National Division II Coach of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
