Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • From artificial intelligence (AI) on Mars to the impacts of cult brainwashing on parenting, nine students from Eastern Connecticut State University showcased their work at the 2025 National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), held April 7-9 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, PA. Among the student presenters was Nabeeha Fatima of Suffield, a senior studying psychology and sociology. Fatima explored the relationship between culture, parenting styles, and emotional intimacy in young adult relationships. Her research revealed a significant correlation between one's culture and their parenting style, citing that those from more collectivist cultures tend to have more authoritarian parenting styles.

  • Cloudy skies did not stop more than 230 Hofstra students from going out into the community early one recent Saturday morning to garden at neighboring homes. The University's annual Pride and Plant event connects students with local homeowners, who need help with yard work and planting. Among the participating students was Ava Aube of West Suffield, who is studying civil engineering. The beautification event, which started in 2017, was sponsored by Hofstra University's Office of Commuting Student Services and Community Outreach.
