Head-On Collision Closes Enfield-Suffield Bridge
A crash between a tractor trailer and a van closed the bridge for a considerable amount of time Friday morning.

SUFFIELD, CT - A severe head-on crash involving a tractor trailer and a van early Friday morning forced closure of the Enfield-Suffield Veterans Bridge on Route 190.
The crash took place shortly after midnight on the Suffield side of the bridge over the Connecticut River.
Police said the truck caught fire, and diesel fuel which spilled into the roadway also caught fire, burning the van.

The van operator had to be extricated from the vehicle and sustained severe injuries. The truck driver had less serious injuries, according to police.
The bridge was closed while investigators and a cleanup crew from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection worked at the scene. The closure was still in effect at 8:15 a.m. It reopened shortly before 9 a.m.
