5-Year-Old Boy Pulled From CT River Has Died, ID Released: Reports

The boy was pulled from the Connecticut River on Oct. 26 following a kayak accident, according to local reports.

HADDAM, CT — A 5-year-old boy who was pulled from the Connecticut River after a kayak accident on Oct. 26 has died, according to NBC Connecticut.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT-DEEP) has identified the boy as Jaxon Podbielski, of Higganum, NBC CT reported, noting the child died on Wednesday.

The Haddam Volunteer Fire Company was called to Landing Road in Higganum at 3:02 p.m. last Saturday for a child in cardiac arrest after a drowning, the fire company said in a post on its Facebook page.

The child was flown to Middlesex Health for treatment, and later transferred to Connecticut Children's Medical Center, NBC CT said.

The boy and a man fell into the river when their kayak capsized, Fox 61 reported, quoting the Connecticut State Police.

An official cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
