Here are the top five stories today in The Haddams-Killingworth:

  1. It's that time of year again, time for Neighbor Appreciation Weekend 2022
May 14 & 15, at the Essex Steam Train.
This exciting weekend includes free Steam Train and Riverboat rides (coach seating) for residents in six towns along the Valley Railroad’s operating line including; Essex, Deep River, Chester, Haddam, East Haddam and Old Saybrook. Hope to see you there! (Facebook)
  2. Last fall, the state passed a law that required a five-cent surcharge on every nip sold. According to reports from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, since then, nip sales in Haddam have topped $136,000, which means the town gets $6,000 for cleanup. The bill originated to help with the nip container liter problem. The surcharge is passed on to the retailer and then the consumer by wholesalers. And they in turn hand that money over to towns for environmental cleanup. (Patch)
